The first thing I do when I plan to come to any country or city or just a new area — I figure out what coffee shops they have there.

Coffeeshops for me is more than just a place where you can get a coffee. But I talk about this another time.

I discovered Gallery Drip Coffee after my quick research in Google and immediately added it to my “Places To Go” list in Trello.

The coffee shop located at the National Art Center in Bangkok. What’s interesting about it (and what, in fact, provoked further thoughts of mine) — they only do pour over coffee. To be honest, I only started to get myself into this area of coffee and find it very fascinating and promising. Probably, I would compare it with the wine culture, where you have the whole bunch of types, tastes, and way of preparing and consuming wines (think Glühwein).

Ok, back to the coffee shop. Exterior view:

Huge collection of the dripping cups mixed with the merch:

The place is relatively small but cozy. Good lightning set of the place: plenty of sunlight mixed with the soft warm light.

They have a medium size celling. The structure that decorates it creates a nice sense of the sky (or waves?)

Here and there you also can see the pieces of their collection of coffee gear :)

Hint: The guy is not part of their collection ;)

The best piece is this set of old hand mills in the corner:

Apparently, they are not for sale

The main element in the picture is actually a barista. This is where the real coffee magic happens. I did not have a chance to participate in the tasting session. Probably will try to do it next time I am in Bangkok.

The staff is very friendly, really knows their craft and happy to share more about each type of beans they use.

Back to the concept of pour over coffee. I think eventually there will be more distinction between traditional mainstream coffee and these small indie coffee shops.

The job this kind of place does for me: It sets slow pace, more meditative mood, where you can sit with your thoughts, read a book, have a deeper conversation with your friends while slowly sipping your filtered coffee.
